In support of World Contraception Day, Friday 26 September 2025, Essex Sexual Health Service is encouraging residents to explore Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) methods as reliable, low-maintenance options for preventing unplanned pregnancies.
Delivered by Provide Community and commissioned by Essex County Council, Essex Sexual Health Service offers a range of free and confidential LARC services, including the contraceptive implant and the intrauterine device (IUD), both over 99% effective and suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Sue Luty, Sexual Health System Lead at Essex Sexual Health Service, said: “We want everyone to feel empowered when it comes to making decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.
“World Contraception Day is the perfect opportunity to start the conversation, bust myths, and make contraception more accessible.”
LARC methods are ideal for those who want peace of mind without the need to remember a daily pill. Once fitted by a professional, they last for several years but can be removed at any time if your circumstances change.
Essex Sexual Health Service also supports local health professionals by offering LARC training, helping to expand the number of locations across Essex where people can access high-quality LARC provision.
